Community Education & Training
When New Mainers migrated to Maine communities over 15 years ago, there came a need for education around cultural understandings for everyone – New Mainers, service providers, law enforcement, healthcare providers, government agencies, and the broader communities.
Maine communities have come a long way over the last 15 years, but more work remains to be done. The Immigrant Resource Center of Maine staff are uniquely positioned experts who come from the New Mainer communities themselves, and they are able to provide accessible skills-building community education and training and assistance to those who need it.
The trainings the Immigrant Resource Center of Maine provides are many and varied and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the audience. Trainings include, but are not limited to, panels that discuss multicultural issues in a Maine context, language access and what providers can do to improve language access, cultural considerations for service providers, trainings on specific cultures and religions, and trainings on what it’s like to grow up as a first generation refugee in Maine.
