The Difference We Make: Bridging Cultures and Services

Picture
The Immigrant Resource Center of Maine staff serve as experts in providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services to Maine’s refugee and immigrant populations, and acting as liaisons between community partners and the immigrant and refugee community. The Immigrant Resource Center of Maine (IRCM) strives not to duplicate the efforts of our partners, but to serve as a bridge and as cultural liaisons between our community partners and the immigrant and refugee community members in a joint effort to provide efficient and effective programs and services.

IRCM empowers refugee and immigrant families by helping them access available services, advocating for victims of sexual and domestic violence, preventing violence in our communities, providing assistance with childcare, resettlement, translation, and transportation.

IRCM strives to guarantee access to existing services and our staff possess an empathetic understanding of the unique needs of refugees and immigrants settling in Maine, and are trained to assist schools, social services, medical providers, and other providers working with the immigrant and refugee communities.

“We are all from one community, whether we are from Somalia or Lewiston or Auburn, Maine. We all need to learn to work together, to accept each other, to grow together, no matter what our religion or cultural background is.”
