Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Support & Prevention Services
Female genital mutilation, also known as female genital excision or female genital cutting, is a set of procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injuries to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. The IRCM develops culturally and linguistically-specific educational material and programming for different local ethnic communities to dispel FGM myths. The organization's goal is to ensure the new Mainer community understands the consequences and issues that come with FGM. As a result of the organization's work, FGM is almost non-existent in the new Mainer community.
