Human Trafficking is considered a form of modern-day slavery as it claims 40.3 million global victims. Three-fourths of the victims are women and girls forced into either prostitution or illegal work conditions. In the U.S. alone, sex trafficking consists of 82% of reported human trafficking incidents, according to the Office of Justice Programs. Immigrant and refugee women and girls are at high risk as most human trafficking victims are immigrants and refugee women and children. This high risk is due to immigrant and refugee women's susceptibility to deceitful practices due to cultural, legal, and language barriers.
